Exporting Phases From Revit to IFC

Here is a great tip for our consultants to use when they are saving out IFC files for us to use in Archicad. Sometimes we only need a particular phase to be saved out from their model. It is possible for them to isolate only the part of the model that pertains to a given phase. Use the steps below to do this (courtesy of Evan Hales from PK Associates).

STEP 01
In the 3D view, go down to the phasing portion of the properties menu and select the phase filter and phase you want to have shown/exported.

This current view has phase “D2” showing along with everything else ghosted/greyed out using the phase filter.

IFC Exchange Protocol for Archicad to Revit

It’s encouraging to see more and more movement toward a true 3D-Modeling-Based approach to design at Orcutt | Winslow with more and more BIM authoring being provided by our consulting engineers. This requires a shift in process away from the traditional 2D DWG background exchange; the new “background” is becoming model-based. As we move into 2013, we want to make sure we are providing consistent, predictable background models to our engineers. Toward that end, the Design Technology Committee is working on a series of simple guides that will step you through the process of sending and receiving models. Attached is step-by-step guide for exporting Archicad model files to consultants using Revit MEP. This workflow has been tested on several CCRD projects and has been found to be reliable. Please keep this handy and report any issues that come up or alternative workflows that you would like to share so that we can tweak it over time. We will be updating and adding more guides in the near future.
